Cold udon noodles in a vegetable broth. At least I hope it's a vegetable broth. That's what the packaging looked like  Roll Eyes

Thanks. No ill effects, and I was starving when I got back in from town so it tasted great. Of course, then came dinner. I thought I had bought a package of peas. They looked like peas. Maybe dried peas. Except they were popping around in the pan like popcorn, actually blew the lid off the pan, and despite trying to boil them for nearly an hour in a gallon of water, those 'peas' never got past the "al dente" stage. Tasted worse than peas, too. Ate 'em anyway. Woman cannot live on sweet tea and Oreos alone  Wink

Lin isn't there some native that can teach you the basics?  Is there a school cafeteria that you can hang out in or barter with?

I start my Chinese lessons today, but its only once a week, and I do know some basics, orally, but I can't really read anything.
As for the cafeteria, apparently, I need to pay for a school ID, and then put money on the card, and *then* I can eat at the cafeteria. I just haven't gotten around to it  Roll Eyes

Its okay. I still have oreos!

Ask someone to write down a few important words/names for products on flashcard-sized notecards.  They'll fit into your purse or backpack, and when you're shopping for something you can show them to people in the shop and they'll know what you want.  I did that when I was traveling through Japan and it worked pretty well!

This morning a guy in the car park came up to me and Sarah and give us chocolate biscuits - do you think we're being groomed?  Grin   I'd like to say we didn't accept candy from strangers but hey, it's free chocolate  Evil
